| The town of Majunga
Majunga has for origin the Antalaotra-Arabian language that means the city of flowers: Mji Angaia (Mji: Quoted, Angaia: Flower). Majunga developed itself from 1740 when the notables of the Sakalava Antalaotras' kingdom resident in the bay of Boina transferred their capital of the island Antsoriboro to Marovoay.

The baobab tree
The baobab tree emblem of Majunga is famous for its exceptional circumference of 21.70m with 1m in the ground, its height hardly exceeds 10m.
“Baobab” is a Senegalese word of Arab origin which indicates a tree with enormous trunk.
Madagascar has seven species of Baobab tree, only one is common to Africa : that of Majunga. It is more than 800 years. Its trunk was used as execution post for people condemned to death.
